luminair

is a proposal of an immersive, algae-powered theatre experience located in Seattle, designed to push the boundaries of performance and sensory storytelling. As a multimodality theatre, Luminair blends cutting-edge AR/VR technology with real-time sensory engagement to create an evolving environment where audiences don’t just watch a story—they live inside it. All the theatre spaces are tied together through a central theme—“The Pulse of Living Matter”—which explores the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature through algae as a living, reactive medium. Across each space, algae glows, shifts, pulses, and even releases scent in response to audience interaction, creating a powerful, multisensory dialogue.

The building houses four distinct theaters, each tailored to different audience groups and sensory needs. From tactile storytelling for experimental and neurodivergent guests in the Synesthetic Theatre, to projection mapping and bio-reactive visuals for digital-age viewers in the Immersive Projection Theatre, each space offers a unique interpretation of the living, responsive potential of algae. Other theaters include the Algae Farming Theatre, where performance and sustainability merge, and the Interactive Bio-Theatre, a playful, hands-on experience for all users.
